“Our city of Duluth, Minnesota constructed a lakefront boardwalk approximately ten years ago as part of a city adjacent urban interstate highway project. After test trials using Iron Woods® brand Ipe, we elected to use Iron Woods® brand Ipe for the one mile boardwalk along our Lake Superior shoreline. The Iron Woods® have received about every type of punishment and use test known, and remains in essentially the same condition as when constructed. It retains it's surface without splintering, checking or other types of wood deterioration. The use is primarily as a pedestrian boardwalk, yet service and emergency vehicle use occurs to a limited extent without damage to the wood. During winter snow seasons, an adjacent bituminous trail is plowed for pedestrian use with the boardwalk often used by cross country skiers leaving snow cover over it's surface and edges.”
